The Last Post.

Dear friends,

We have arrived safely back in Canada and while we take a few days to recoop we are regularly commenting  to each other about how wonderful the whole experience of Australia was.  A rich time.

First let me (Aimee) briefly update you on our few days in Melbourne and then I'll summarize.  :)

Melbourne...
... was postponed when, upon arrival in Victoria, we decided to take a 5-hour ride to the small town of Warracknabeal to visit my friend high-school friend, Jordy, and her husband, Mike.  From Saturday night to Monday morning we spent time sharing meals and getting to know each other (we'd never met Mike and Jon hadn't said more than 'hi' to Jordy).  It was a lovely time and really special for me to reconnect with such a great friend.
... is a comfortable city for Jon and I.  Lots to compare to Toronto in architecture, style and feel.  Lots different too.  Perhaps more European?
... has amazing eats!  We had such good food while there, eating out for most meals (such a treat).  I have lots of new ideas to try now that we're back home.
... is close to the Great Ocean Road, where we spent a day.  Most of the road is on the ocean and spans almost 250 km.  While we didn't see the whole thing, we spent our time ooo-ing and aaah-ing at the sights.  I was lucky to have Beth decide to fly down and do it with us so that she could see us one more time.  I soaked in all the time with her I could get!

Here are some pictures to illustrate.

Our hosts, Jordy and Mike, in Warracknabeal serving a delicious roast dinner!

Melbourne and the Yarra River.
The infamous Flinders Station.  I loved the colours and shapes interacting here.

Some art in the alley.
Loved these alleys!  The whole space was buzzing with people at lunch and dead after 4pm.

Our lunch choice one day - can you see all the soup pots?

Behind us are the Twelve Apostles.

Since Sydney, Jon and I have really been able to start the transition back to Kitchener.  We have talked through some thoughts about lifestyle and travel as this is something we both love to do and want to do intentionally.  We are talking about the thousands of things we learned on this trip and the ways we grew together.  This may sound neat and tidy, but our learning actually had many facets. Even back home, we are looking ahead to what He would have us carry forward from these experiences.  In any case, we are well-rested and full of the inspiration of beautiful creation from the land of Oz.

I think that sums it up.  Thank you for your readership.  I hope that we can connect soon, in person.

For us both,
Aimee

  1. So looking forward to giving you both big hugs. Loved following this - it's been fun to keep up to date with you two. I LOVE the art in the alley! I would literally steal that picture and frame it.
